Will Rahul Dravid stay on to coach the Indian T20 team? Who were the job candidates shortlisted by BCCI?

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is keen to keep Rahul Dravid as head coach through to the June 2022 T20 World Cup.

After the World Cup, Dravid’s contract will expire, and the BCCI is willing to extend an offer of a new contract to the former Test No. 3 player.

“He had no time to think” about staying with the Indian team, Dravid said in the post-match press conference following the World Cup Final.

While the Indian team is engaged in a bilateral Twenty20 International series with Australia, VVS Laxman is serving as an interim coach for them.

Coach in all three formats, Dravid is highly regarded by both chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar and India captain Rohit Sharma, who support his continued play until the next T20 World Cup.

It’s likely that important support personnel like batting coach Vikram Rathour and bowling coach Paras Mhambrey will sign new contracts if Dravid accepts the deal. In keeping with the forthcoming T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies, the decision highlights consistency and stability within the coaching staff.

It remains to be seen, though, if he accepts the extension offered by BCCI.
